Riot Automation ("Riot," "we," "us," or "our") provides a cloud-based building automation platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have. By using our website or platform, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
- Account & contact information — name, company, email address, and phone number you provide when you sign up or contact us.
- Building & device data — readings, setpoints, and status values that your connected controllers publish to the platform, along with the configuration you create (dashboards, names, alarms).
- Usage information — basic technical data such as log entries and device identifiers used to operate and secure the service.
- Billing information — handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
How We Use Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the platform and your dashboards.
- To deliver alarm and system notifications you have enabled, by email and/or SMS.
- To process subscriptions and billing.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
- To respond to your inquiries and provide support.
SMS / Text Messaging
Program. If you opt in, Riot Automation sends SMS text messages containing building alarm and system notifications (for example, "Space Temperature too high"). These are transactional service messages. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.
Consent. SMS messages are sent only to users who provide express opt-in consent. You opt in within your Riot account, under your user profile's notification settings, by entering your mobile number and checking the SMS consent box. Consent is not a condition of using the platform, and is kept separate from acceptance of our Terms or this Privacy Policy.
Message frequency. Message frequency varies based on your building's system events. Message and data rates may apply.
How to opt out. You can stop messages at any time by replying STOP to any message; reply HELP for help. You may also disable notifications at any time in your user profile.
We do not sell or share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in information with any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. SMS consent and phone numbers are used solely to deliver the notifications you requested.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as needed to run the service:
- Service providers who operate parts of the platform on our behalf — for example, our SMS delivery provider, our payment processor, and our cloud hosting and database providers — and only to the extent needed to perform their function.
- Legal & safety — when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Riot, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
Data Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, database-level access controls that isolate each customer's data, and server-side credential management. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information using industry-standard practices.
Data Retention
We retain account and configuration data for as long as your account is active. Device history is retained for one year. We retain other information as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Your Choices
- Notifications — enable, disable, or change email and SMS notifications anytime in your profile.
- SMS opt-out — reply STOP to any text, or disable notifications in your profile.
- Access & deletion — contact us to request access to or deletion of your personal information, subject to applicable law.
Children's Privacy
Riot Automation is a business product and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
